Pain Curve

While it may be all to real for those who have been through a rough project, it really is a "pain" curve. Proper project planning can be painful. It takes the commitment of a lot of people (and some money, usually) to take a concept, directive or enforcement action and turn it into a successful project. Such planning is even more difficult in the environmental business because most, if not all, of what we do does not generate any profit. While it can be characterized as just another cost of doing business, an environmental expense can be huge, and on-going. With proper planning, and the application of good science, these expenses can be controlled.
